In Surah al-Najm (53:29-30), Allah, Al-Alim (The All-Knowing), tells Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and thus us also “to withdraw from those who turn away from the religion of” Allah and do not listen to Divine Injunctions, the Holy Qur’an, the Reminders of Al-Alim. This is because turning away from Al-Alim and following one’s own desires are the most obvious errors and sins. We must “withdraw from those who solely seek mundane life and reinforcement of bestial faculties and refrain from engaging in scholarly arguments and discussions, since their utmost extent of knowledge is to enjoy the pleasures of the flesh and they may not transcend perceptible bounds.” They have forgotten Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala by choosing al-hayata al-dunya (the life of the world) “and have exchanged their human dignity and honor with mundane possessions.” (See An Enlightening Commentary into the Light of the Holy Qur’an, Vol. 17, compiled by a group of Muslim scholars, under the direction of Ayatullah Allamah Al-Hajj Sayyid Kamal Faqih Imani, Accessed from https://www.al-islam.org/enlightening-commentary-light-holy-quran-vol-17/surah-al-najm-chapter-53-verses-1-32#surah-al-najm-verse-29
