In Surah al-Tawbah (9:118), Allah, Al-Tawwab (The Guide to Repentance, The Accepter of Repentance), at the end of this ayat, proclaims that He is Al-Tawwab, Al-Raheem (The Merciful). The rest of this ayat and the previous ayat are about the battle of Tabuk, a difficult and tiresome endeavour for Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and the Muslims. Al-Raheem granted them Mercy and those whose hearts were about to swerve turned to Him in repentance and were forgiven and fortified. There were also three Muslims who procrastinated until they were left behind and therefore missed the battle. After the Prophet and the Muslims ceased communicating with them and their wives left them, all by the Prophet’s orders, the three were all alone. They did not even speak to each other. The Romans sent someone to try to get the three Muslims to move to the Byzantine territory. That was upsetting to them because they were Muslims and so they went into the wilderness and cried and prayed to Allah, Al-Tawwab, for fifty days. Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala turned with Mercy to them and accepted their repentance. This event, as illustrated in the Holy Qur’an, shows that if the people of a society are good, no one who is defiant and unfaithful to Allah and His Messenger “have any room in that society. They have to improve themselves. Thus, the action that the Muslims performed was the best style for improving the polluted minority, and a general strike against them” may help them to improve their faith and character. Indeed, Allah is Al-Tawwab, Al-Raheem.
