In Surah Ghafir (40:16), Allah, Al-Wahidi, Al-Qahari (The One, The Irresistible, The Overpowering), in the previous ayat, tells us that He sends down the angels (Angel Jibreel) with the Ruha (Spirit, inspiration) of His Command to His Messengers and whomever He Wills for spiritual sustenance and to warn us of the Day of Mutual Meeting (Day of Resurrection) and the Day of Judgement. The Day when “the past and future generations, the oppressed and the oppressors, the wrong doers and the wronged, and men [and women] and angels meet.” That Day we will stand at the Divine Tribunal with our beliefs, words and actions. “The goal of sending down all Scriptures and Divine plans is to warn servants against the Day of the Great Meeting.” In this ayat, Al-Wahidi, Al-Qahari makes it clear that on that Day when we come out before Him, nothing is concealed or hidden from Him. All veils will be removed. All obstacles, even mountains, will be removed. All secrets will be revealed. Our book will be laid open for us to see everything we thought we had hidden, everything we were concealing, everything we’ve believed and said and done. Our true selves, our true identities, will be revealed. Everyone will appear before Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala. Of course, Allah already knows what we believe, speak and do here on Earth. He is The Omnipotent, The Omniscient, The Absolute Sovereign. It will be called out, “To Whom does the Dominion belong on this Day?” And the answer will be called out, “To Allah, Al-Wahidi, Al-Qahari.” “Who asks the question? A number of Qur’anic exegetes maintain that it is God Almighty Who asks the question and all believers and disbelievers answer. Some also hold that God Almighty both asks the question and answers to it. A number of exegetes also believe that the Divine Caller asks the question and produces the reply.” We ask and plead for Allah’s forgiveness for He is Al-Ghaffar, Al-Ghafoor (The All-Forgiving, The Oft-Forgiving, The Forgiving, The Exceedingly Forgiving).
