In Surah ale-Imran (3:50-51), Allah, Al-Rabb (The Sustainer, The Sovereign), tells us the words of Prophet Isa (Jesus), peace be upon him, continuing from the previous ayats. In this ayat, Prophet Isa explains a part of the aims of his appointment to Prophethood. He says he also came to allow the people “to use some of the things which (because of transgression and sin) had become forbidden for them…(the meat of camel, some of animal fats, some birds, and some kinds of fish.)” In Surah Al-‘An’am, 6:146, Allah says: “And to those who were Jews We made unlawful every animal having claws, and of oxen and sheep We made unlawful to them the fat of both, except such as was on their backs or the entrails or what was mixed with bones…” Therefore, maybe, those unlawful things which became lawful by Prophet Isa, peace be upon him, are these very things, which is a Sign to them as stated in this ayat. And, at the end of the ayat, Prophet Isa says, “So be conscious of Allah and obey me.”

In the second ayat, Prophet Isa, peace be upon him, is still speaking. This is “to remove any ambiguity or doubt and falsehood, and also in order that some people do not attach his exceptional birth as a means for his divinity.” Prophet Isa “emphasizes that you must worship only Allah, neither me nor anything else. This is the way of monotheism, the straight path, not the path of paganism nor the path of duality or polytheism.”

There are many other ayats in the Holy Qur’an in which Prophet Isa, peace be upon him, “emphasizes on his worship and servitude before Allah. Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala uses the word Rabb (Sustainer) in the Holy Qur’an said by Prophet Isa, peace be upon him, “which itself is an evidence to his utmost attention toward the effort and strive against paganism, or against the claim of divinity of [Prophet] Jesus (a.s.). As long as [Prophet] Jesus (a.s.) was alive and was among people, no one dared to introduce him as one of [the] gods. Besides that, as the Christian researchers have confessed, the subject of Trinity and belief in three gods (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost) appeared from the third century AD.” This tapestry is part of our Gaza and Palestine collection.
