In Surah al-Qadr (97:1), Allah, Al-Qadir (The All-Powerful), in this surah declares that He caused it, the Holy Qur’an, to descend in the Night of al-Qadr. This night is in Ramadhan. Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala uses the plural pronoun “We” and the seemingly ambiguous “it” to show the great importance of the Holy Qur’an. Qadr means Honour and Power. Qadr is also translated as Decree, Destiny, Determination. The Night of al-Qadr is the night when the fate of human beings is decided. It is a very special Night and the Holy Qur’an is the last Divine Scripture to us from our Sustainer. It is a mystery which night in Ramadhan is the Night of al-Qadr. “It is noteworthy that in some verses the descent of the Qur'an is used with the word /inzal/ and in some others, with the word /tanzil/. The difference between these two Arabic terms is that /inzal / has a broad meaning and here it implies ‘bringing down all at once’, while /tanzil/ implies ‘bringing down gradually’. This difference, which is seen in the verses of Qur'an, can be taken as an indication to the above two kinds of descent.” In this ayat, inzal is used. In the third ayat, Allah, Al-Qadir, tells us: “The Night of al-Qadr is better than a thousand months.” That is equal to more than 80 years, the lifespan of a fairly long blessed life. “The Holy Prophet (S) is narrated to have said: ‘'Surely Allah has bestowed on my community the Night of Honour which He did not give to any of those (peoples) who were before them.’” (See An Enlightening Commentary into the Light of the Holy Qur’an, Vol. 20, compiled by a group of Muslim scholars, under the direction of Ayatullah Allamah Al-Hajj Sayyid Kamal Faqih Imani, Accessed from https://www.al-islam.org/enlightening-commentary-light-holy-quran-vol-20/surah-qadr-chapter-97
