A Historical Political Novel
Survival and Faith
in the Midst of Violence and Oppression
FAJR ALMAS in PALESTINE – BEYOND HATRED departs from the usual format. Written entirely through atypical communication, such as news clips from newspapers and television newscasts, emails, phone calls, meetings, speeches and conversation transcripts, and diary entries, dated and identified, although fictionalized, her story revolves around two high school Muslim cousins – Aliyah in the US and Shakurah in Gaza. Aliyah must come to terms with who she is and who she knows she should be, from self-satisfying needs to global ones, Allah-consciousness and human dignity by the help of Allah and her humble cousin.
The book is a factual account of the creation of the zionist state and the ensuing turmoil in the region, culminating with the devastating attack on Gaza in late December 2008. Muslim readers, interested in real-life political fiction, will find themselves educated and motivated by this book. All young adults will become enlightened about the history of this central part of the world and identify with the faith and strength of the oppressed Palestinian people. Even adults will find the format interesting and the story of survival and faith in the midst of violence and hatred touching. Shakurah's attempt to put faces and names on the Palestinian martyrs is the author's humble contribution to humanity, history and Islamic resistance.

I don’t know how much longer we can take this. There is so much poverty in the camp. This is not the way we’re supposed to be living. All around me there is suffering. Most people don’t have enough food to eat and go for days without. All the roads are closed so no one can get in or out of this place. Buildings are just skeletons of steel and concrete because they’ve been bombed to death. Every day someone dies or is killed by Israeli bombs or snipers. Lots of houses have been set on fire near ours. Yesterday, I heard someone screaming in the streets. When I looked out the window, I saw people running down the road on fire. The flames were shooting out of their backs. It was so awful that I sat and cried for hours. My mother couldn’t stop me. There’s no electricity and the water is dirty. Raw sewage runs in the roads and collects in pools too wide to jump over. I haven’t been to school this year because it’s too dangerous. Everyone’s sick around me. There’s not enough doctors and little medicine. When will the world realize what’s going on here?

REVIEWS
Palestine is always in the news, although it’s always called Israel. I feel that newscasts and articles are slanted against the Palestinians. I have been in classes where Muslims speak out against the atrocities that Israel does to the Palestinians. Teachers, and other students, rarely let them get their points out and shut them down with claims of being anti-semitic. I found it too difficult to understand. But after reading Fajr Almas’s book, Palestine – Beyond Hatred, it’s all become crystal clear to me. Thank you. - Anonymous
The format of Palestine – Beyond Hatred was appealing, especially in the age we live in, where technology is so much a part of our lives. With the story of Aliyah and Shakurah broken up into small sound bites, I found it very difficult to put down. I also learned a lot about what is going on in Palestine and how much the zionists hate them. – Name Withheld
Lots of Muslims in the west are just like Aliyah was – self-consumed. Through Fajr Almas’s book, Palestine – Beyond Hatred, I realized I am like that also. Her story has triggered a desire to be more global in my outlook and to care about others, not just in my own community, but throughout the world. She’s made this change in me, with Allah’s help, without being preachy. This book is a must-read! – A Changed Muslimah in Canada
Learning the factual account of how Israel got dumped onto the middle east was a history lesson not taught to me in school. I was ten years old when they attacked Gaza and although I didn’t understand it then, I remember it because my parents were always watching the news on TV. Now I understand why. I can’t imagine living in a war-torn country, hearing bombs drop, seeing people’s bodies blown to bits, and knowing others hate me and wish I was dead. This is not a video game, people! It’s still going on all over the place. – Would love to leave my name
I thoroughly identified with Shakurah and Aliyah in Fajr Almas’s new novel, Palestine – Beyond Hatred. Through my work with the BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) Movement on my university campus, I have sought to support the Palestinian people through these methods and to educate others about Israel's non-compliance with international law and its horrid treatment of the Palestinians through dehumanizing tactics, terror and murder. I am happy that she has brought this issue forward in a dignified and compassionate way for young people. – A Dedicated Student, Somewhere in the US
The violence against the Palestinian people is no different from the US’s treatment of native people and black people. The US government has always gone after the underdog, trying to exterminate and enslave them. The US is Israel’s biggest supporter and financial contributor. When the American people wake up to how their tax dollars are being spent to main, torture and obliterate the Palestinian people, and others around the world, and when they acknowledge the aggression and oppression their government has inflicted on the native people and black people, which continues even now, it will be a truly remarkable day. Fajr Almas’s novel, Palestine – Beyond Hatred, is a step in the right direction – educating the youth in story form. They may be able to put a stop to actions that are not only hateful, but beyond hatred. – A Concerned American
While Fajr Almas has fictionalized the news clips, she has not fabricated the names of the Palestinian martyrs. I swear if a white person’s foot is stepped on, it’s in the news with their picture and name. But the Palestinians who die through the most heinous means by the zionist state, and for that matter, most non-white people in the world, don’t get their picture nor names mentioned. They are little more than cockroaches which no one cares about but rather despises. It’s time to resist oppression and take a stand for justice. After all, love is justice. I applaud Fajr Almas’s outstanding contribution to humanity, history and Islam in her new book, Palestine – Beyond Hatred. – Name Withheld
This story of survival and faith in the midst of violence and oppression is a heroic effort on the part of Fajr Almas. We, who live in the west, should thank Allah for the blessings we have, not whimper over small annoyances and daily trials, and instead commit ourselves to love, justice and peace. – A Committed Muslim
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
FAJR ALMAS is the pen name of a Muslim writer in North America. Due to the seriousness of this book’s topic, the author has chosen not to publish under their real name. It is hoped that readers do not view this as cowardice, but as intelligence in the face of dangerous times in the onging “new world order.” INKED RESISTANCE ISLAMIC PUBLISHING is proud to offer FAJR ALMAS’S second novel, PALESTINE – BEYOND HATRED.
