In Surah al-Tawbah (9:128), Allah, Al-Rauf (The Kind Giver, The Affectionate), talks to us about Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. Prophet Muhammad is a Messenger who came to us from among ourselves. This means he is a human being and was known to the people where he was born and grew up. He was not, for example, an angel or a stranger. As well, he was not born into a wealthy family who lived in a palace, etc. He lived the lifestyle of the regular people and suffered like they did. And even today we know he was a real human being who was born in a specific place, to specific parents, at a specific time, etc. Al-Rauf tells us that Prophet Muhammad is grieved when we are distressed. He is concerned about us. He is sympathetic to us. He feels our sadness as his own. He feels offended if we are offended by others. It is not only when he was alive that he was sad and concerned when the people were under attack, under hardship, etc. Prophet Muhammad is still that way. Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala clearly tells us that Prophet Muhammad is most kind and merciful to the believers. He cares about us and is fond of us. He wants what is best and good for us. He wants us to attain success and happiness and reach Paradise. He loves us. Prophet Muhammad is very attached to his Ummah. We should thank our Sustainer for sending Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, to the world and that we are Muslims and followers of Allah and His Messenger. Al-Hamdulillah. We must emulate Prophet Muhammad and be grieved when afflictions fall upon people, be concerned about others, be kind and merciful to each other, wish for the best for each other and love each other. While the Messenger is kind and merciful to the believers, Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala is Kind and Merciful to everyone. (See The Holy Qur’an, 2:143) We must never turn away from Allah for then we will be turning away from His Loving Kindness and Vast Mercy and there is no God but Allah.
